Rockets Jan Fondo 4
Sunday 10th January 2021 is the date for the fourth edition of Jan Fondo, it’s like a Gran Fondo but a little less grand, it’s also in January.
If you’ve ridden some of our events before, maybe Around the Block, Hell of the West or Trans Kernow then you’ll know we like to focus on fun. Our events are not races in disguise, they’re about creating good memories, pushing yourself a bit but mainly they’re just a good excuse to get out of the house and ride your bike!
Jan Fondo is exactly that, it’s a ride from Rockets & Rascals in the heart of the Barbican to the other side of Dartmoor (and back!). Total ride should be about 70 miles. Last year everyone had a great time riding to Cafe 3Sixty in Bovey so we're doing it again this year.
We’re not going to be putting up signs on lamp posts, in fact we’re not putting up any signs or even telling you which route to take. Some riders will head directly there and back, others will try to accrue as many miles as their legs will carry them. We’re also not going to tell you what bike to ride, it’s not a sportive, you can ride a mountain bike off road, you can ride your gravel bike over the moors or you can put your skin suit on and ride a TT bike.
It’s also a great way to burn off some Christmas chub.
Riding in January can be bitterly hard so please do not enter this event unless you are comfortable with riding 70miles, i.e you have done it LOTS of times before.
If you make your day over 100miles you get a free pint of beer.
Entry is £12 and here’s what you get:
- Your very own Jan Fondo Brevet Card
- A checkpoint with something to warm your cockles
- A finishers medal back at Rockets & Rascals
Any other questions then pop into the store or drop us a message.
Timings will be as follows:
Riders can set off from 0800
All riders need to be back at Rockets by 16:00 at the latest.
Checkpoint at Bovey Tracey will be open from 10 until 13:00 so you need to plan your route accordingly. Riders arriving at 13:00 that look beaten may be encouraged to get a lift home.
Our events are covered under our insurance with CyclingUK but we always recommend all riders to get their own 3rd party insurance by joining either British Cycling or CyclingUK.
